BIO
Christopher Hickey earned the MFA degree in printmaking from the University of Nebraska and the BFA degree from Miami University of Ohio. His paintings, prints and drawings, have been exhibited in numerous national and regional juried exhibitions.
ARTIST STATEMENT
My current practice centers on still life painting. Objects are typically arranged in complex structures to create representational challenges. Working from life, I am attempting to accurately capture the observed forms while balancing the need to achieve an effective composition. In addition to this observational process, there is the intrinsic and/or symbolic meaning of the objects themselves. The works can be artistically formal or narratively complex, depending on the visual challenges experienced during the process of representation. In translating the arrangements of objects onto a picture plane I hope to express a level of sensuality through sight and touch.
